Weather Satellite images
received at M0AEU
These are the latest weather satellite images received from the low earth orbiting NOAA satellites. These are received on 137 Mhz currently on a colinear antenna connected to a Dartcom sythesized VHF satellite receiver. There are four NOAA satellites in service - 15, 17, 18 and the newest NOAA 19 (still undergoing trials). The satellites orbit the earth every 90 minutes, however with the rotation of the earth this means we typically get 2 good passes from each satellite every day. In addition to this, other lower passes can sometimes yield good results from this location. A band of interference can be seen occuring on several of the images - cause as yet unknown! The software in use is WXtoIMG - responsible for recording the wav files to disc, then decoding the information and applying various palettes to the data to achieve the images seen here. Further information is available from NOAA and from the WXtoIMG websites.
